Horse Clipping

Clipping

Start off by making sure your horse is clean and dry. Next spray some clipping oil onto the clippers and turn them on to lubricate the blades. Remember to do this several times whilst clipping. Only using proper clipper oil and not WD40 as this will blunt your blades if used regularly.

Next turn the clippers on and place them on the back of your hand with the palm of your hand placed on the horse. Then vibrations will travel through your hand and onto the horse.

If the horse is ok with this next remove your hand from between the clippers and horse and place them flat on the horse’s skin. Move the clippers up and down first going in the opposite direction to the hair. You are now clipping!

Depending on how hot your horse gets and how much work you will be doing dictates the type of clip you do.

Remember to keep the hores’s skin smooth and flat. When clipping the lines for the top of the legs, simply follow the line of the muscle and you can’t go wrong. Leave a triangle at the top of the tail with the point of the triangle pointing up the back. It should be symmetrical on either side of the spine.
